Wild Muse Concerts

Professionally curated programs in conversation with nature

Wild Muse Concerts brings together distinguished classical musicians for ecologically themed programs. Each performance invites audiences into a dialogue between music and nature to illuminate humanity’s role within it. Our concerts highlight women composers, diverse cultural traditions, and contemporary music to offer fresh perspectives in classical music.

Season 1: Seed · Bloom · Flight

May - October 2026

The three-part series explores the lifecycle of nature and the garden, from germinal seeds of beginnings (May) to full bloom (August) and decomposition (October). We begin this May with Seed, featuring works that investigate the process of motivic growth, the first burst of life, and how to reckon with birth in an age of climate change.

Upcoming: The "Seed" Weekend | May 30–31

Please note: This weekend features two distinct programs. Ensure you select the correct date for your interests!

  • Saturday, May 30, Young Artist Day: High school mentorship and emerging talent. Includes a private ecological listening workshop for students, followed by a 12:00 PM Public Showcase.

  • Sunday, May 31, Piano Trio Concert: Professional concert and optional farm tour. Our flagship program features a 3:00 PM Farm Tour and a 4:00 PM Piano Trio Concert. Works by Emilie Mayer, Lili Boulanger, Beethoven, Gabriela Ortiz, and our composer-in-residence Angelique Mouyis.

Season 0:

Femmes et Forêt

Our inaugural concert at Faraway Farm Alpacas marked the beginning of Wild Muse Concerts. Held in the farm’s historic barn and framed by flowers sustainably grown on-site, Femmes et Forêt: Music for Flute and Piano explored the relationship between women, music, and nature. Central to the afternoon was Mélanie Bonis’s evocative suite Femmes de Légende, a cycle of portraits of mythological and literary women, whose themes of femininity and nature set the tone for the program. Alongside Bonis’s suite, the program featured Sofia Gubaidulina’s Sounds of the Forest, a meditation on the mystery and vitality of the natural world; Carl Reinecke’s Undine Sonata, evoking the narrative of the water-spirit Undine; and Yuko Uebayashi’s Flute Sonata, a contemporary composer whose voice is enriched by her deep relationship with nature.

The program was performed by Sarah Shin, flute, and Wild Muse Founder, Kathryn Felt, piano.
